Rosie:
“The Omega, what kind of name is that?” (The Omega smirks) Rosie:
“Yes, well, The Omega, I’ve been having this problem with my
back. (pause)
Well, were you raised in any particular religion?” Ω:
“I’m The Omega. People
make their own religion.” Rosie:
“If, say, I wanted to start my own religion, which, I don’t
know…involved eating children. Could I?” Ω:
“If you could live with yourself, if you were convinced that that
was your path to God, I would encourage it.” Rosie:
“So you believe in God?” Ω:
“Religion is a seed without a pot to plant it in without God, and
God’s Kingdom is mustard. That
is, a seed small enough to lose if you are not careful and a plant large
enough to shelter a bird in its shade.” Rosie:
“Okay. And where is
this Kingdom of God?” Ω:
“The Kingdom of God is already here among you now.
In any house that accepts you, heal their sick, share a meal, and
there is the Kingdom of God. It
is not in some future time. You
cannot point out the sign of its coming.
The Kingdom of God comes not at some special place.
You cannot point out the place of its coming. The Kingdom of God is already here among you now.”
(Ω touches
Rosie’s chest) Ω:
“Can you feel it? It’s
here. It’s in you as much
as it’s in me. It’s in
you as much as it’s in me.” Rosie:
“I have some questions here.
Ah, here’s a letter. The
Omega (Rosie reads) My name is Jessica.
I am twelve years old. Last
year my father died. He
caught a cancer. How could
God do that to me?” Ω:
“Oh, Jessica, sweet, charming girl.
Life is a gift. Life
is a miracle. That God gave
you life is the biggest blessing in the world.
That God gave your Daddy life, another blessing.
That your Daddy loved you and you loved him, you are three times
blessed. God cannot take away
what he doesn’t give in the first place.
That we hold onto life so much must tell you it is a wonderful
thing. But do we own it?
Do we, for nothing, earn the time we get?
Of course not. We get
what everyone gets; we get a lifetime.” Rosie: “Um, The
Omega, one more before we get to our guest panel.
You have been accused (Rosie continues reading) of having a
marketing team bigger than anything Steven Spielberg ever had. How do you justify this?” Ω:
“We must not misunderstand the nature of humility.
Have I ever said I am more than you?
I am made of the same stuff. But
what do we do with the lamp? Do
we put it under a basket? No.
The lamp goes upon a stand. Do
we put it in the cellar? Certainly
not; we hang it out on our front porch for all our friends and neighbors
to see. People, friends, when you start a fire, you want it to
burn.” [Break] |
